Introduction The tourism industry is the world's largest employer, accounting for 255 million jobs, or 10.7% of the global labor force in 1997 (World Tourism Organization 1998b). Growth over the past two decades has been rapid, and many new destinations have emerged to meet the demand. Northeast Asia has shown particularly strong growth in the recent past until the current financial crisis. Marine tourism is expected to play a major role in the rapidly growing naturebased travel industry.
